Time To Winterize Your Car

Winter driving conditions can be hazardous.

Snow, sleet and ice on the road can become safety issues quickly if you aren't prepared. And equally important is that your car is up for the challenge. O'Meara Ford recommends that you winterize your car before the winter season to make sure your car can handle the winter road conditions.

Here are some tips.

  • Install Winter Wiper Blades
  • Mount Winter Tires
  • Keep your Washer Fluid Full
  • Have a Winter Safety kit in your vehicle
  • Service your vehicle regularly
  • Maintain proper air pressure in your tires (including your spare)
  • Keep your fuel level at 50% or more
  • Make sure your rear defroster is in working order

WHAT TO DO BEFORE YOU DRIVE

The first thing is always the first thing before you drive, remove all snow and ice from the windshields, windows, tops, and sides of your vehicle – yes, all of it! There are two reasons for this: removing debris from all windows and the roof improves visibility, and prevents chunks of it from falling off and hitting other cars.

In addition, remember these things before getting behind the wheel in winter:

Allow enough time to get where you need to go safely.
Slow down!
Allow more stopping distance. Snow and ice make it more difficult to stop.
Allow more space between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you.
Watch the weather.
Be aware of any treacherous weather that may be headed to your area.

If the roads are just too dangerous, don't risk an accident!
