O'Meara Ford wants you to travel safely this holiday season

O'Meara Ford wants you to travel safely this holiday season

Road trips are a big part of the holiday season. Millions of Americans will hit the highways before year’s end. Preparing for a big trip solo or with the family takes patience and planning. In addition to packing up and ensuring your vehicle is road ready, there are plenty of other boxes to check if you want your travels to go smoothly.

Technology can play a big role in road trips. The right vehicle technology, apps and gadgets can make planning a breeze, keep your family entertained during hours behind the wheel and help avoid delays and other mishaps. Here are some high-tech tips and digital tricks to make your next holiday road trip a virtual breeze.

Weather Warnings

All it takes is a little sleet, snow or ice to dampen your travel plans. Being one step ahead of the weather is pretty easy now, thanks to technology. If your Ford vehicle is equipped with the optional Navigation System and SYNC® 3, you’ll have access to the SiriusXM Traffic and SiriusXM Travel Link® services via satellite from SiriusXM (requires active subscription).1 This feature can provide you with detailed local and national weather information, including current conditions and five-day forecasts. You can also see detailed radar maps, storm and surface weather information. When winter weather starts to get nasty, this can make a big difference in avoiding delays and potential problems. As a bonus, SiriusXM Travel Link can give you detailed information on nearby fuel prices, ski conditions and more, including the following topics.

Staying Ahead of Traffic

Stop-and-go traffic doesn’t exactly put people in a festive holiday mood. There are going to be millions of other folks on the road this year; you’ll need to get smart about how you get from point A to B. The available voice-activated navigation with the SYNC 3 system on many Ford models can help you save serious time. Using the available SiriusXM Traffic and SiriusXM Travel Link with SYNC 3 provides traffic info that can also help you avoid delays. This feature offers real-time traffic information, including traffic speed, accidents and road closures. It can also provide alternate route guidance and mapping to help you avoid problem areas.

Cool and Connected

When you rely on your smartphone or tablet for information and entertainment, you’ll want to make sure you keep the devices charged. Do yourself and your passengers a favor and pack as many charging cables as you can. You’ll never know when you might need one. Many current Ford vehicle models have a smart-charging USB port. They can charge tablets, and the ports supply the necessary power to fully charge your device.

A good internet connection can also be of help to passengers. With available SYNC Connect, you can take advantage of an in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot and connect up to 10 devices simultaneously.2, 3 You can even use FordPass™ to keep track of your Wi-Fi data usage.4
